The night's biggest prize Artist of the Year will go to one of the following seasoned performers: Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Zac Brown Band.
There are five artists who will be biting their nails before the envelope is opened to reveal the Artist of the Year: Breakthrough Artist … the artists who are coming into their own in the 'new' artist category. And the nominees are: Easton Corbin, Jaron and The Long Road To Love, The Band Perry, Danny Gokey and Jerrod Niemann.
Since this is a fan voted awards show, we thought it would be fun to catch up with the breakthrough artists to ask them why the fans should vote for them.
Jaron and the Long Road to Love: 'Well, just start by saying that all the nominees in the category are all musically equally worthy of the award, so let's just table for a second whose music is one way or the other because I think we're all worthy of it, but having that said I would say because it's fan voted I'm somebody who spends a minimum of an hour or two a day with my fans up to 10 hours sometimes. I know I'm a solo act but my fans were I instrumental in actually bringing me back and making me because I wasn't the artist this year that was broken by a record label. I was the artist this year who was broken by fans. I actually have made some great friends, and that's why I call them my Frans because they're fans but I know them better than just fans. I actually have that R' from Friends. They're not quite friends, but they're definitely more than fans to me.'
Easton Corbin: 'Oh, heck, I don't know. Oh, boy. I better get my paper out and start writing.' (laughs) Shoot, that's hard. Well, I'll just say this. I don't like to blow my own horn. To be honest with you, I just perform the music that I love and write songs that I relate to, and I feel like my fan base can relate to. To me those songs are real to me. All the music that I make reflects a part of me and who I am. I hope people like it. I guess that's about it. I hope they vote for me.'
The Band Perry: Kimberly: (laughs) 'Well, I would probably say the three of us have been on the road since we were 15, 10, and 8, for the last 12 years, and everything we do means a lot, and we love the live performance. Our very favorite thing to do is to just go out on stage every night with country music lovers and to sing country songs together. We spent the last year getting to meet and everyone has given us such a warm welcome. There are so many fantastic artists in that category. Everybody has worked really hard and we're just honored to be one name on that list.'
Reid: 'Yeah, we are a live band. We just sing songs that are other people's stories as well as ours, and we just want to make a few moments for people to forget about their lives in an hour-and-a-half set or so.'
It's nice to see some really new artists up for this award, when some of the other awards shows put people up for new artist even though they've been around for years. I could see TBP, Danny or Easton all having a chance to win. Would be fun if it were TBP or Danny, who are the most unique IMO among this group, but I like almost all of them.
