Actor Mel Gibson reacts during a hearing in a Los Angeles Superior Court to finalize financial issues in a long-running custody battle with former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva in Los Angeles. Gibson will pay Grigorieva, the mother of his 22-month-old daughter, $750,000 under a settlement reached concerning the former couple’s financial issues. The settlement also stipulates that Gibson and Grigorieva’s daughter, Lucia, must receive the same financial benefits as Gibson’s other children and a trust must be established for her.

This is not the first of Gibson’s public troubles. He spoke with Diane Sawyer on ABC’s “Good Morning America” about his anti-Semitic outburst following a 2006 arrest for drunk driving.

The leading man was arrested for drunk driving after he was caught speeding and had a blood alcohol reading of 0.12 percent, according to authorities. He pleaded no contest and was sentenced to three years’ probabation, according to published reports.

The actor made a cameo appearance in the film “Fathers’ Day” with Billy Crystal. Actor Robert De Niro, who backed out of Gibson’s film “Edge of Darkness,” told Australian reporters, “I hope he gets through all this. It’s unfortunate, you know?”
