Jason Solomons on the Hollywood remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo; Tom Six’s The Human Centipede; and the London premiere of Salt

Swede harmony

Just to join the dots and clear things up: the director of Swedish thriller sequel The Girl Who Played with Fire is Daniel Alfredson. He’s the older brother of Tomas Alfredson, who made the great Swedish vampire movie Let The Right One In. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is being remade in Hollywood by David Fincher and the heroine Lisbeth Salander will be played by Rooney Mara (above), who was actually quite good in the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot. Let The Right One In has already been remade by Hollywood, as Let Me In, starring Kodi Smit-McPhee from The Road and Chloe Moretz, from Kick Ass. Fincher will shoot The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo in Sweden. Daniel Craig has signed on to play journo Mikael Blomqvist for three films. Craig is Bond and in the second Swedish film, out here later this week, there’s a plotline about an incendiary document about sex trafficking called From Russia With Love.

Centipede has legs

Dutch director Tom Six is in London making a sequel to The Human Centipede, a rather gross horror movie for which sick bags were handed out at the press screening. The sequel, I’m told, will star mainly British actors and involve a 12-person creation stitched together, mouth to bottom. There is also a return for the crazed surgeon played in the first film by German actor Dieter Klaser, who will reprise his role.

What’s in a name?

Talking of sequels, I’m intrigued to see that Hollywood has totally given up on its series of knowing titles for franchises. You know the sort of thing: Shrek Forever After; Why Did I Get Married, Too?; Analyse That; The Whole Ten Yards etc. The follow up to the ultra-low-budget shocker Paranormal Activity is currently officially called: Sequel to Paranormal Activity. It’s scheduled for release in October.

Down the premiere league

Angelina Jolie must have been thrilled with the red carpet company at her Salt premiere in London last week. Her A-listness was joined by her close friends Kerry Katona and Joe from Pop Idol. At least the Scott Pilgrim premiere had such luminaries as Hayley Atwell and Olly from Pop Idol. And that comedy bloke who was Avid Merrion from Bo’ Selecta but is now Keith Lemmon from Celebrity Juice. Ah, the glamour.
